UK Government Considers a Breeding Exception to Patent Rights

As requested by art. 27 (c) of the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court, UK is considering an exception to patent rights for plant breeding purposes. Page 11 of the following report explains that the UK governments views the exception as beneficial for the advancement of the plant breeding industry.  Breeding companies also find a utility in incorporating the breeding exception into patent law, especially if patents on GM plants increase.
